Putting Donations to Good Use

Chronic Hope Cares: Support, Advocacy, Connection, & Resources for all Spoonies

We take our mission to support the chronic pain, chronic illness, and disability community very seriously. It is a commitment we make to every Spoonie who trusts us with their story.

Living with a chronic condition often comes with challenges that extend far beyond symptoms. Many Spoonies face obstacles accessing medical care, navigating insurance, affording mobility aids or accessibility equipment, making home modifications, and paying for services that help them live more comfortably and independently.

That's where we hope to help.

Every Spoonie’s journey is unique, which means every need is unique as well. Because of that, there is no way to list every meaningful way donations can make a difference. What may seem like a small act of support can be life-changing for someone facing extraordinary challenges.

Here are just a few examples of how donations have helped members of our community in the past:

  • Replacing a wheelchair after an airline damaged it and the insurance company refused to cover a replacement.

  • Providing a special family trip to the aquarium for a young boy who had been confined to the hospital for months.

  • Paying past-due electric bills and associated fees for a Spoonie whose electricity had been disconnected.

These stories are only a small glimpse of the many ways your generosity can provide hope, relief, accessibility, dignity, and joy to members of our community.

Below are some of the ways we use donations to support Spoonies.

Help Paying off Medical Debt

We recognize that navigating the healthcare system can be incredibly difficult, especially for those living with chronic pain, chronic illness, or disability. Even with insurance, many Spoonies are left facing overwhelming medical expenses and mounting debt. When medical appointments, treatments, medications, and procedures are ongoing, it can feel impossible to catch up financially.

To help ease some of this burden, we offer Medical Bill Grants. Through this program, eligible individuals can apply for financial assistance to help pay outstanding medical bills, allowing them to focus more on their health and well-being and less on the stress of medical debt.

Assistance with Medical Related Travel

Sometimes the care you need isn't available close to home. Many Spoonies must travel long distances, sometimes to another state or across the country, to access specialists, treatments, or medical procedures.

Preparing for an important medical appointment is stressful enough without also worrying about the cost of transportation, lodging, meals, and other travel expenses. No one should have to choose between receiving necessary medical care and protecting their financial stability.

Through our Medical Travel Grant Program, eligible individuals can apply for assistance to help cover some or all of the expenses associated with medical travel. We believe that when facing a health challenge, your focus should be on your care and recovery, not on how you're going to afford the trip.

Accessibility Equipment Assistance

Accessibility looks different for everyone. Every Spoonie has unique needs, and the tools that help one person may be completely different from what helps another. We believe everyone deserves access to the equipment and resources that make daily life safer, easier, and more comfortable.

Whether you need assistance obtaining a walker, wheelchair, neck brace, shower chair, adaptive tools, or another piece of accessibility equipment, we are here to help.

Through our Accessibility Equipment Assistance Program, eligible individuals can apply for financial support to obtain the equipment they need to improve their independence, quality of life, and ability to participate more fully in the activities that matter most to them.
